Tournament Results

Congratulations to the team of Hub Blankenship, Michael O'Neal and Adam Loyd as they defeated the team of Bruce McBrearty, Bob Ballard and Larry Warren to win the 2026 Winter Cup Championship. The match was a classic contest for the ages between the grizzly veterans (Bob and Bruce) and the young upstarts (Hub and Michael). The teams battled back and forth to a draw through the first 9 holes and then both sides birdied 10 to keep it even. Bruce made his move on 11 with a shot that the boys from Miacomet would be proud of, putting his team up one. Then Slim O'Neal, having to withdraw during last year's final due to injury, decided he was not going to be denied again as he single handedly won 14 and 15 to go up by one. The teams then halved the remaining holes, resulting in a 1-up victory for the young studs, proclaiming a new generation to be reckoned with at the MGA.

With fans clamoring for a reunion, the Fab Four got the band back together and manhandled a field of over 70 players to win the Wild Dunes MGA 2026 Opener. Congratulations to the team of Rick Horton, Murray Small, Russ Penley and Nick Santella, as they came in with a winning score of 24 under. The only aches and pains with this group was the hurt they put on the competition.

Congratulations to the winners of this weekend's Member-Member tournament. There were 35 teams totaling 70 players who took on the new and unique format on the Links and Harbor courses. Thanks to everyone who participated and special thanks to the Wild Dunes entire staff who put together a fantastic weekend of golf.

Congratulations to the team of Mark Mitchell, Chris Bowman, Roger Young and Bob Ash winning the Inaugural Superintendent's Challenge at the Harbor Course. The Winter Cup trio of Mitchell, Bowman and Young, having just missed a playoff spot, made the savvy move to acquire Bob Ash to form a dominant quartet to overcome the challenging Harbor Course. The course had a unique layout and obstacles, including construction equipment blocking greens, rakes and hoses encircling holes, tees placed behind trees, to name a few. Combined with the breezy (balmy?) conditions today, there was no end to the "Challenge" as well as no end to the smiles (or smirks) on the superintendents' and pros' faces. We had a great turnout and the new event was an instant success. Thanks to all at Wild Dunes in devising this event and designing the course set up. All participants are already eager to do this all over again next year. Well done!

Yes Sir! As Verne Lundquist intoned 40 years ago, congratulations to the team of Mike Gollobin and Greg O'Donnell, winning the 2026 Tag Team Putting contest on Masters Sunday. Under a blistering sun and up against a star studded field, Mike and Greg rose above the competition and slick greens with Mike making a record setting 9 (10, 11?) one-putts during the tournament. While no green jackets were awarded, the duo came away with $100 prize each for their efforts. Congratulations as well to the runners up Eric Neishloss and Tom Fleming, winners of $50 each. Thanks to all who participated, and especially to Amrish Macedo and the pro shop for running this popular event. Enjoy the other Masters.

Kevin took control early with a hole-in-one on the 7th hole at the Harbor on Saturday, carding a low round of 70. Bobby Bumgardner made a valiant effort on the Links, with the tournament coming down to the 18th hole. Bobby holed a 15-foot putt to apply pressure, but Kevin calmly drained his own 10-footer to clinch the title. Kevin's victory continues the recent youth movement of tournament success at Wild Dunes which has left us old timers scratching our heads.
